Working groups

Working groups address specific matters of common interest to our members. The current working groups are:

This Working Group aims to deal with issues specific to boxes and enclosures. It follows the legal and normative situation, especially fire resistance issues in the framework of CPR regulation and fire reaction issues.

This WG deals with issues specific to Cable Management Systems or concerning mainly Cable Management Systems within the CECAPI products range. This includes the influence on Cable Management Systems of the implementation on power, control and communication cables of the European Construction Products Regulation (CPR).

This WG is a forum for sharing experiences and updated information about Conformity Assessment and Market Surveillance and also for Drafting the CECAPI position in market surveillance policy framework and its enforcement at European level. Being more specific, this WG discuss everything related with conformity assessment (CA) issues, including voluntary 3rd party scheme and defining the position on the European Testing Inspection Certification System (ETICS) issues, where CECAPI is participating as stakeholder.

From a sectorial perspective, the WG is covering the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) and Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMCD), dealing with the issues coming from the LVD Working Party issues and EMCD Working Party, where CECAPI is participating as stakeholder.

This Working Group aims to deal with issues specific to cord extension sets. A new standard is under preparation in CLC TC23BX, which require coordination between manufacturers to guarantee the necessary consensus.

This WG will follow up the evolution of the legal and normative situation linked to cord extension sets and will analyse any opportunity to propose amendment to the standard to include additional functions, such as USB, and recommends to the SC and GA actions to be undertaken.

This Working Group aims at analysing the current legislative framework around cybersecurity and mainly the “Cybersecurity Act” and the amendment proposals tabled within the European Parliament, reactions from stakeholders to the legislative proposals, the impacts on CECAPI sectors, and act on those impacts to the best interests of CECAPI members.

This joint project group (CECAPI and CAPIEL) is an active forum to address digital technologies consequences and opportunities for our buildings industries, and promote CECAPI&CAPIEL as a major innovator and contributor in that field.

The objectives are:

  • Establish the CECAPI and CAPIEL positions regarding this topic;
  • Propose necessary strategy to develop visibility of CECAPI and CAPIEL and push the defined positions in the field of Smart Grid/Micro Grid, Efficient Building Technologies, Energy Efficiency for Homes, Building an Industry, Impact of Digitization for Buildings;
  • Express comments and recommendations on official documents issued by EC, ESOs..;
  • Anticipate inevitable changes to maintain / develop CAPIEL/CECAPI members’ leaderships in the changing and emerging fields;
  • Anticipate and Promote CAPIEL/CECAPI industry as major innovator / contributor to the EU Energy and Emissions challenges;
  • Propose communication materials to CAPIEL/CECAPI communication groups.

This WG deals with all the topics related to the environmental legislation, especially those concerning waste (WEEE), substance restriction (RoHS), material efficiency and circular economy.

The objective of this WG is to establish the CECAPI position regarding these legislations and to collaborate with the European administration to ensure an efficient implementation of them, identifying at the same time opportunities for CECAPI members.

This WG promotes the European market in Latin America through the supervision and monitoring of the evolution of technical or customs legislation, in the different countries of Latin America, and trying to remove barriers to European products with the help of the European Commission.

The main objective of the CECAPI Working Group on Load Control is to identify and analyse new legislative initiatives of the European Commission, in particular by identifying those likely to have an impact on control products and systems entering the scope of our industry.

These impacts can be of two kinds, direct impacts with the "Cecapi" products that fall within the scope of the Regulation, and indirect impacts with the products concerned by a new regulation applicable to other products (for example the lighting regulation)

The second objective of this working group is to analyse newly approved legislative documents, identify points for clarification, obtain clarifications in collaboration with the appropriate bodies and write guidance documents as appropriate for Cecapi members.

The responsibility of this WG is to prepare all of the CECAPI marketing material to promote the activities of the association to all relevant external stakeholders.

The objectives of the WG New Legislative Framework and Standardisation are:

  • to propose solutions to ease the citation of harmonized standards at the Official Journal of the European Union
  • to share between the members all relevant information regarding how standards can support European legislation,
  • to contribute directly or indirectly to the exchanges with the European Commission.

This WG follows up the evolution of the legal and normative situation linked to plugs and socket-outlets, analyses any changes and recommends to the SC and GA actions to be undertaken.

The objective of this WG is to continuously work with industry to develop and promote solutions to improve the level of safety and performance of electrical installations in existing residential and commercial buildings across Cecapi member countries to reduce the risk of electrical fire, injury and business disruption. Older buildings which do not have modern electrical installations represent a serious risk. A repository containing best practices is being created to enable the national associations to share these with their respective authorities and the Renovation working group is actively involved with FEEDS (The Forum for European Electrical Domestic Safety) which is an initiative promoted by the European Association of Electrical Contractors (AIE), the European Copper Institute and the International Federation for the Safety of Electricity Users (FISUEL).

The objective of the Strategy Working Group is to direct the resources of Cecapi to ensure that our members receive expert guidance on the key issues that affect our industry at any time and to support our key industry partners involved in the areas of legislation and standardisation, together with the industry supply chain.

CECAPI initiative

MSSI Electrical

Market Surveillance and Support Initiative (MSSI Electrical) is a CECAPI initiative, with the support of major industrial players including ABB, Benedict, Eaton, Hager, Legrand, Schneider Electric and Siemens. MSSI Electrical, a not-for-profit initiative, is serviced by the ORGALIME Partnership in Brussels.

MSSI Electrical’s objective is to help eliminate unsafe and non-compliant electrical products in Europe to help protect people, goods and property.

Working together, with trade bodies, market surveillance and law enforcement authorities, MSSI Electrical will provide information and training to support efforts to help ensure 100 percent of products used in Europe are safe and compliant.  

Some of the biggest global names in electrical product innovation are working together to raise awareness and inform the right people, including supply chain operators, customs and other government organizations. 

The objectives are twofold:

  1. The first goal is to bring together manufacturers to agree and develop proactive actions / initiatives for ensuring optimum customer safety and product compliance with European directives to contribute both to safety for customers of electrical equipment and to fair competition among market operators. The intent is to develop an initiative that serves as a framework to achieve more effective market surveillance by the relevant national authorities across Europe.
  2. The second goal is to foster the widest application of this new framework, as defined above, including through reporting unsafe or otherwise non-compliant products to the relevant national authorities. In particular, this initiative would strive to: 
    1. Improve market surveillance effectiveness and efficiency by contribution of all economic operators in European countries
    2. Consolidate national reporting of unsafe or otherwise non-compliant products to national authorities under the umbrella of a European organization.

Joint initiative

FEEDS

The Forum for European Electrical Domestic Safety (FEEDS) is an initiative promoted by the European Association of Electrical Contractors (AIE), the European Copper Institute and the International Federation for the Safety of Electricity Users (FISUEL) with three main objectives:

  • To contribute to the improvement of objective data on fires with electrical source in each European country and at European level.
  • To seek and select shared solutions in Europe and worldwide in order to reduce the number electrical accidents and fires with electrical source in dwellings.
  • To facilitate the availability of these solutions to all the stakeholders concerned by electrical safety in dwellings at the level of each European country.
